Paint Protection Gold Coast

Car Paint Protection services on the Gold Coast, Byron and Brisbane

When it comes to automotive paint protection you will have three options:

On this page we will talk about the second and third options, as traditional waxes will produce gloss but only a few weeks of limited protection.

Synthetic Sealants

Synthetic paint sealants are the most popular type of paint protection. It creates a very thin, invisible layer that will temporarily protect your car paintwork from UV rays and daily contamination.

Paint sealants also create an incredible shine and last longer than carnauba wax formulas. Generally, paint sealants are made of synthetic particles known as polymers however acrylics, PTFE, nano sealants, "glass" based are also popular types of sealants. These molecules bond together and create a transparent protective shell on top of your paintwork. Paint sealants protective effects will last for 3 months up to one year and that depends on the product, paint preparation before applying the product, washing methods after applied, whether your car is kept undercover, climate, etc.

Permaguard, Optimum Opti-Seal and Glare, not in any particular order are some examples of good paint sealants, acclaimed by professional detailers all over the world.

Be careful!

When buying a car, most automotive dealerships will offer you a 'paint protection' application service. The price for these services usually range from $900 up to $2,500. Usually, dealership paint protection products are very similar and fall under the Synthetic Sealant category. Some of these products require the use of special shampoos that contain the same sealing particles that were first applied to the vehicle, in an effort to make the product last longer.

Before buying any type of paint protection for your new or used car, we strongly suggest you to do your research. Don't fall for fancy names, "hi-tech" descriptions, pushy sales people and their "warranties"... Google it! Look for valid reviews and happy customers. There are a few great paint protection options out there, it is just a matter of finding the best bang for your buck.

Coating Systems

'Coating' is the newest, most advanced type of automotive paint protection.

The Optimum brand in the forefront of coating technologies. Opti-Coat is made in the U.S.A. and is not a synthetic sealant type of paint protection nor a temporary coating solution. Opti-Coat is a clear coating formula - it's chemical structure is very similar to factory type clear coats. It is a resin, not a cream like sealants are.

Opti-Coat paint protection is a hard wearing, aftermarket clear coat for superior resistance to scratching and chemical etching from environmental impacts. Opti-Coat scratch resistance measures an incredible 'above 9H' according to recent CSIRO tests. It provides an outstanding permanent protection for all factory paints and can also be applied to painted plastic surfaces, including headlights.

A single, correctly applied layer of Opti-Coat measures approximately 2 microns in thickness. Compared to other 'paint protection' sealants, Opti-Coat is more than 100 times thicker, with tests showing wax or paint sealant coating measuring less than 0.02 microns. This allows Opti-Coat to effectively absorb damage that would otherwise affect the factory paint layers. Even swirl marks, light scratches and chemical etching are decreased because the factory paint system is fully protected by the thicker, harder outer layer of Optimum Coating.

Be aware that some sealants have been re-labeled and are now marketed as "coatings". This is an effort to mislead customers to buy cheaper, easy to apply, under performing sealants at a higher price. Remember, Opti-Coat is a Silicon Carbide based resin and the one proven permanent coating with multiple positive reviews and feedbacks from around the world. It is also important to mention that the Opti-Coat formula is unique. There are no similar products on the market. Be aware if someone tells you that their product is "just like Opti-Coat". If that was true they would probably get their product also tested by the CSIRO and show real scientific proof of their claims. But then remember that this is not just about fresh paint protection performance but also durability.

Also, be aware that some local businesses have been using the word 'Opti-Coat' in their online ads without Optimum Australia's permission. Only an Opti-Coat authorized installer has access to the product itself - Opti-Coat Pro and training. These businesses do NOT carry Opti-Coat Pro and are NOT experienced with the product, therefore not qualified to offer correct advice on Opti-Coat benefits, durability, methods of application, etc. For a list of authorized installers, please check the Optimum Australia's website. Fab's Car Polishing was the first business to offer Opti-Coat paint protection on the Gold Coast back in late 2010.

Opti-Coat vs. paint sealants

Unlike paint protection sealants that degrade over time and can be easily removed through washing with chemicals, Opti-Coat does not degrade and cannot be removed by chemicals such as heavy duty truck wash, dishwashing liquid, alcohol, acids or caustic degreasers. It is totally resistant to these chemicals (as per CSIRO test) and produces a permanent film that is chemically bonded with the factory paint outer layer. Opti-Coat is in fact the vehicles' new clear coat. Opti-Coat's unique formulation makes it far more resistant to chemical etching than your typical paint protection sealant. The 2 micron+ layer provides a very hard and thick buffer between any damage and the factory paintwork.

Regarding looks, in a side by side comparison test with sealants and waxes, Opti-Coat produced a very high level of shine. If correctly applied by a trained professional, Opti-Coat will create a permanent, incredible high-gloss surface.

Opti-Coat vs. other coatings

Opti-Coat has been tested in the USA since 2006. In Australia it has been tested by the CSIRO with impressive results. Even the term 'coating' when used to describe a resin type of paint protection, was coined by Optimum Polymer Technologies, the makers of Opti-Coat.

When you do your research, you will find out that other coatings on the market have only been launched over the last couple of years and are actually SiO (Silicone Oxide - Glass) not SiC (Silicone Carbide - Ceramic). There are no long term tests tthat prove these coatings durability and long term performance. Why risk it?

Preparation is also key when applying resin based paint protection. Even Opti-Coat, if applied on a not properly prepared surface, will have it's performance and durability compromised.

Opti-Coat was tested for chemical and scratch resistance. Chemical Resistance was measured using concentrated (100%) Hydrochloric Acid, Phosphoric Acid and Ethanol. Each resulted in no effect to the coating. Scratch Resistance was tested and showed resistance up to 1100 grams. A result like this is commonly referred to as 'above 9H'Click here to see our results. We will have more results coming in the near future.
