Optimum Opti-coat (Opti-Guard) services - Gold Coast and Brisbane region

Optimum Opti-Coat is a clearcoat formula that forms a permanent film that protects paint and other automotive surfaces indefinitely, if applied correctly to a properly prepared surface.

Opti-Coat acts as a second layer of clear coat providing increased protection from the attacks of environmental elements. Opti-Coat can be applied to painted surfaces, wheels and hard trim. Opti-Coat should only be applied to painted surfaces that are completely clean and free of defect.

Opti-Coat is a permanent coating like polyurethane that will bond to all automotive surfaces. It will be dry to touch within 30 minutes and cured within 12 hours. After the 30 minute dry time, it can only be removed with sanding or machine compounding.

Unlike factory urethane clear coats, Opti-Coat does not oxidise over time and provides permanent hydrophobic surface characteristics that release water, dirt and grime so your car stays cleaner and shiny for longer.

Opti-coat F.A.Q.

1 - How is Opti-coat different from other paint protection/ sealants?
Opti-Coat is different to other paint protection waxes/sealants because it is not a wax or a sealant. It is a polymer clear coat much like factory clear coats. Opti-Coat permanently displays hydrophobic and cleaning properties you would normally see from a freshly applied wax or sealant. It is also much more resistant to chemical etching than factory clear, harder and therefore more resistant to scratching than factory clear. Unlike waxes/sealants that degrade over time, Opti-Coat does not break down or delaminate from the surface. It is permanent like the paint on the car. Opti-Coat Paint Protection measures approximately 2 - 3 microns in thickness. Compared to other Paint Protections, Opti-Coat is more than 100 times thicker with tests showing a non-permanent dealership Paint Protection Sealant measuring less than 0.02 microns.

The main difference from Opti-Coat and all the other 'paint protection' products is that Opti-Coat is permanent and you don’t need to use special shampoos to wash your car. I guess the main question you might ask regarding this is - If I need to ONLY wash my car with a special soft, pH neutral shampoo then - how is this product so weak that even a strong car shampoo can remove it from my paint?? Opti-Coat does not present this problem.

2 - What are the benefits of applying opti-coat to my car's paintwork?
Resistant to chemical etching, resistant to scratching, resistant to bird droppings, bug splatter, tree sap or UV damage (oxidation and colour fading), car stays cleaner for longer and is much easier to clean, permanent just waxed look. Single stage paints become “clear coated” and will not oxidise. One thing to note is that the product is not scratch proof. Poor maintenance may scratch the finish. Opti-Coat is 2 - 3 microns thick though, so although the coating may be damaged, it still does its job of protecting the factory paint by absorbing this damage.

3 - How does the 5 year/ Lifetime opti-coat warranty work?
Zen Automotive Suppliers Pty Ltd, the exclusive importer of Opti-Coat in Australia, warrant to the owner of the nominated vehicle that if the Optimum Clear Coating is unsatisfactory in its performance of protecting the vehicles factory paintwork from oxidation, or damage from bird droppings, bug splatter, tree sap or UV damage, whilst being maintained in accordance with the terms and conditions of the warranty, Zen Automotive Suppliers Pty Ltd or its agents will at no cost to the owner repair or clean, and re-treat the affected area.

The owner is required to have the coating serviced annually or five-yearly. The service will involve a basic wash and detail and a check of the coating. If the coating has delaminated (it won’t though) the dealer will reapply to affected area. If the surface has been neglected and has a build up of contamination, a non abrasive paint cleaner/polish may be required to restore the surface - this is another thing that makes Opti-Coat special – unlike waxes/sealants we can use non abrasive polishes on Opti-Coat to restore the surface. They will not remove Opti-Coat. If the coating has been damaged by brushes, DIY car washes, chamois etc this is also an opportunity for the owner to elect to have the Opti-Coat machine polished from the surface and reapplied. Reapplication of the Opti-Coat is covered under warranty, however if required, the Opti-Coat dealer would charge standard rates for the machine polishing labour etc.

Opti Coat is warranted by Zen Automotive Suppliers Pty Ltd which offers a Lifetime Warranty for new vehicles (treated within 12 months of first registration date) and a 5 Year Warranty for used vehicles, against the paint protection product. Lifetime Warranty is for the life of the vehicle.

The Opti-Coat warranty is optional and it is priced at $99. For full terms and conditions please check http://www.opticoat.com.au

4 - How much do you charge for the 5 yearly or annual inspection/ detail warranty service?
The basic inspection/ annual service includes a degreaser wash and starts at $55 depending on the size of your vehicle (Gold Coast and Tweed Heads clients). If the surface has been neglected and has a build up of contamination, a non abrasive hand polishing may be required to restore the surface. The hand polishing annual service starts at $60 depending on the size of your vehicle.  If the coating has been damaged by brushes, DIY or hand car washes, chamois, etc, this is also an opportunity for the owner to elect to have the Opti-Coat machine polished from the surface and reapplied. The machine polish service starts at $25 per panel. Reapplication of the Opti-Coat is free of charge and covered under warranty.

Further details can be found in the warranty registration document. Annual or five-yearly inspection / detail prices may vary and are based on our current price list.

5 - Can I buy opti-coat and apply it myself? Why?
No, Opti-Coat professional version (Opti Guard) is available only to selected professionals. Application requires an experienced professional to avoid damage to the surface caused by incorrect application. Application also requires extensive surface preparation before applying the coat.

6 - How long does it take for a professional to apply opti-coat to my car?
The application of Opti-Coat itself takes only 2 - 4 hours. Paint preparation includes de-waxing and decontamination - this is the key step for proper product bonding to the surface and takes an additional 2 - 3 hours prior to application. Depending on the condition of the car, used cars in particular, preparation including cut and polish may take a number of hours.

7 - Can I drive the vehicle just after product application?
Curing (bonding to the surface) will occur within an hour - vehicle can be driven then. You can get it wet after two hours and you could wash it after 24 hours. Fully hardening will continue over a few weeks or months as the resin dehydrates.

8 - Can I apply other sealants/ waxes or polish on a opti-coated car?
Yes, you can apply additional waxes/sealants to the surface although it is not required. Opti-Coat once applied becomes a permanent part of your vehicles paint system. Applying a wax or sealant on top of the Opti-Coat is no different to applying to factory clear coats. A NON ABRASIVE polish/paint cleaner can also be used if necessary.

9 - How does opti-coat handles severe bird/ bat droppings?
In severe conditions (heat and humidity) bird/ bat droppings will etch factory clear coats in only minutes or hours. Opti-Coat is completely resistant to these acids with real life testing over periods of 4-6 weeks showing no etching of the coating. This contamination should still be removed as soon as possible. In the event that damage does occur, the 2 microns of Opti-Coat will absorb any damage and protect the factory paint beneath.
